What to do if someone dies

There are three things you must do, in the first few days after somebody dies.

  1. Register the death. You must do this within 5 days, including weekends and Bank holidays. You will get either a 'certificate for a burial', which you can give to your funeral director, or an application for cremation, which needs to be completed and given to the crematorium.
  2. Tell the government about the death. The most convenient method of informing all relevant government departments about the death in one go, is by using the "Tell us once" service. You will need the deceased's date of birth, National Insurance number, driving licence number, vehicle registration number, passport number and the date they died.
  3. Arrange the funeral or cremation. Contact Lowest Price Funerals to speak with an experienced funeral arranger, who can guide you through the process, every step of the way. Telephone 0330 043 5464 anytime, 365 days a year!
